Healing the World One Song at a Time

Playing For Change, in alliance with Concorde Music Group, has been traveling the world recording musicians of all different talents and backgrounds.  From street performers, to local legends, to some of the biggest contemporary music names this project personifies collaboration in its truest form.

After debuting at SXSW last year, the group has been steadily cranking out new videos.

Pardon the Interruption

So I took a break from life to catch my breath for a minute but I am back now.

It was such an amazing day in Philadelphia today and it made me think of this Rolling Stones song Sweet Virginia....  enjoy.  

This is a great "back porch whiskey drinkin in the summer air" type of song.

Soul Man

      April 1st, 1984 was undeniably one of the worst days in musical history.  In a sad turn of events, Marvin Gaye was shot dead at the young age of 45 during a heated argument with his father.  The world lost a musical pioneer that day and soul music would never be the same.  25 years later, Marvin's music has touched millions of listeners who may have not even known what Motown was.  His influence can still be found in almost any contemporary R&B singer.

    The infectious soul in Marvin's voice still remains just as fresh and relevant as it was 25 years ago.  We all would be a little better off with a little Marvin Gaye in our lives.

   This is one of my favorite Marvin Gaye tunes.  Enjoy.

Suprise

       If you live anywhere near California and are even mildly thinking about attending the Coachella Festival next month--go!  Seattle's favorite little garage-rock band, The Murder City Devils, will be taking the stage.

After a 9 year hiatus, with only a handful of sporadic shows in between, the MCD crew is back on the move.  For anyone who has been a fan of their music this news is basically on the same level as announcing Elvis' return.

Also, if you are ever in Seattle, take a run by frontman Spencer Moody's self-proclaimed "junk shop" , The Anne Bonny, and either buy some novelty accoutrements or take in an art show/musical performance.

Last Light

Ben Nichols, best known as the whiskey and cigarettes inflected 

lead vocalist of Memphis rock band Lucero, has just released his 

first solo album entitled Last Pale Light in the West. 

Based on characters and events from Cormack McCarthy's novel 

Blood Meridian, Nichols' melodramatic solo release strays 

quietly from the normal "lost love" themed ramblings of Lucero songs.

In nine short songs, Nichols manages to resurrect the heart aching

guitar and rumbling vocals sound of every old cowboy tune with 

a subtle flare of his own.
